Who We Are
The Murray Agency, Inc, celebrated its 70th anniversary in business in 2018. The company began in 1948 with Garman Murray, the first of 4 generations, selling health insurance out of his home in Harmony, Pennsylvania. It has grown over the years to a firm that has handled property and casualty insurance, real estate sales, real estate rentals, property management, and property subdivision development.
Thomas R. Murray, Sr. joined his father in the business in the mid 1950s. The company moved from several small office locations in Zelienople to its present location at 223 South Main Street. Thomas R. Murray, Jr. joined the firm after graduating from Franklin & Marshall College in 1964 with a degree in business.
The firm opened its first branch office in Wexford in 1969 and went on to open real estate sales operations in Cranberry Township, Ross Township, Fox Chapel, and Butler.
Garman C. Murray died in 1969 and Thomas R. Murray, Sr. passed in 1972. Patrick T. Murray, the 4th generation, joined the company in 1996 after achieving a degree in real estate. Anne Murray Conn, a graduate of Westminster college with a degree in Business Administration, joined the firm in 2011.
During the 1980s and 1990s, the principals of the firm were active in developing subdivisions totaling over 300 residential lots. They were also active in building and restoring numerous commercial and residential buildings.
The company sold the real estate sales force to Prudential Preferred Real Estate in 1997. The insurance business was sold to John Bonomo in 1998 and he continues to operate Garman Murray Insurance, Inc.
The Murray Agency, Inc. manages all of the properties in its portfolio along with properties owned by others. We service the Cranberry Township, Zelienople, Harmony, and Slippery Rock areas.
Patrick T. Murray is the company’s current President and Anne Murray Conn serves as its Secretary/Treasurer. Thomas R. Murray, Jr. is Chairman and he has served the real estate industry for 55 years.
